Patapsco Communications
Transition Networks

In 2011, Communications Systems, Inc. integrated Patapsco Communications into Transition Networks. With this acquisition, Transition adds industry leading technologies such as: circuit emulation services (CESoIP), also known as TDM over IP or pseudowire and a variety of ISDN products including ISDN over IP (ISDNoIP). The acquired Packetband and Mediaband product lines add a wide range of technology allowing for the transportation of TDM traffic over IP and Ethernet packet networks.

ISDN Over IP

The PacketBank-ISDN range delivers completely clear/transparent ISDN channels across different types of packet networks. PacketBand turns your packet network into a virtual ISDN network.

The PacketBand-ISDN range is unique. It delivers clear/transparent switched ISDN "B" channels across packet networks so any type of traffic can be transported, including:

  • Video conferencing
  • Encryptors
  • Codecs
  • Faxes
  • Modems
  • Voice

TDM over IP

PacketBand-TDM delivers a high quality, completely transparent, E1/T1 circuit across different types of packet networks and various clocking options for different types of networks.

  • Highly accurate and stable clock recovery processes
  • G.823 Synchronization levels of accuracy achievable
  • Precise and steady "hold-over" clock
  • "Tuneable" to different network types
  • Robust, reliable and professional quality
  • Excellent management, statistics and diagnostics
  • Various clocking options, including Plesiochronous, Asymmetrical and Multicast
  • Inter-works with other packetBand family members

Single Port E1/T1

Transition Networks TDM Over IP TDM 1

The PacketBand-TDM-1 (TDM-1) supplies a clock-locked clear channel or structured E1 or T1 circuit over Ethernet, IP, or MPLS networks. It supports a single E1/T1 and can be used in pairs or with other members of the PacketBand range.

Single Port V.35 and X.21/V.11 over IP

Transition Networks Product Image PacketBand VX 600

The PacketBand-VX provides reliable, transparent, and manageable end-to-end X.21 and V.35 connectivity across packet networks. It can connect to local devices and/or leased lines and is able to provide, take and recover clocks.

Circuits can be established 24/7 or in response to requests from the attached equipment via control signals so the circuit is established periodically and on demand. Packetband also supports Multicast for simplex broadcast applications.

4-Port E1/T1 over IP "Leased Lines"

Transition Networks TDM Over IP TDM 4

The PacketBand-TDM-4 (TDM-4) supplies clock-locked clear channel or structured E1/T1 circuits over Ethernet, IP, or MPLS networks.

It supports up to four E1/T1s and can be used in pairs or with other members of the PacketBand range. A three port unit (PacketBand-TDM-3MC) supporting Multicast is also available and this has applications in larger networks where clocking is critical and in some vertical markets such as broadcasting.

8 Port Resilient Chassis

Transition Networks Product Image PacketBand TDM 8

A single PacketBand-TDM-8 chassis can support up to 8 E1/T1 circuits in G.704 or G.703 mode. These circuits can be connected to other chassis and/or to stand-alone smaller PacketBands such as the various single and 4 port units.

16-32 Port Resilient Chassis

Transition Networks Product Image PacketBand TDM 16 32

A single PacketBand-TDM-16/32 chassis can support up to 32 E1/T1 circuits in G.704 or G.703 mode, up to 32 V.35/X.21 ports or 16 E1/T1 and 16 V.35/X.21. These circuits can be connected to other chassis and/or to stand-alone smaller.

ISDN PRI  BRI Conversion

Liberator S

Transition Networks TDM Over IP Product Image Liberator S

Liberator models support up to 4 PRI interfaces and 0, 4, 8, or 16 BRI 'S' interfaces. A standard Liberator 'S' can be user configured with all PRI interfaces the same.

T1/E1 to X.21/V.35 managed converter

Very "soft", network-wide management & visibility via Ethernet of serial port with diagnostics.

DataBand EV

Transition Networks Ancilliary Gear Product Image Databand EV

The DataBand interface converter provides transparent conversion from unstructured G.703 and optionally structured G.704 to either V.11/X.21 or V.35 interfaces. In G.704 mode the unit supports speeds from a single 64kbps timeslot through to a full 2.048Mbps in steps of 64kbps. DataBand also supports full/fractional T1 circuits.

 DataBand IMUX

Transition Networks Ancilliary Gear Product Image Databand IMUX

DataBand IMUX and CSI range connect high speed serial data devices together using multiple ISDN calls, in effect dialling a high-speed “leased line” between non-ISDN devices.

Available with 1 or 2 I-Mux serial ports. The ISDN can be partitioned between the 2 ports or access dynamically so 1 port can use all of the ISDN, for example. This gives a great deal of flexibility on potential speeds of different calls.

Media Converters

A range of remotely manageable E1 T1 V.35 and X.21 media converters which transport serial interfaces across dark fiber plus transport Ethernet traffic at the same time.

Used in pairs; one at each end of the fiber, MediaBands are both locally and remotely manageable with good diagnostics and test facilities - the MediaBand is a robust professional fiber converter.

MediaBand 1

Transition Networks Ancilliary Gear Product Image MediaBand 1

MediaBand-1 transports a single E1/T1 G.703 circuit across a wide variety of fiber links. The same fiber can be used to simultaneously transport Ethernet services.
